The original resort
Creekside may be
site of the original
town, but Alta Lake is
the original resort.
Long before
thoughts of ski
hills and Olympic Games, gondolas and
highways, there was Rainbow Lodge. Owned
by pioneers Alex and Myrtle Philip, Rainbow
Lodge was located on Alta Lake, and was
considered the biggest Canadian tourist
attraction west of Banff. Some of the original
cabins are still standing at Rainbow Park, on
the opposite side of the lake. The Alta Vista
neighbourhood is located on the south end
of the lake, just beside Wayside Park.
Alta Lake makes up a large part of Whistler Centre, as does the Arnold Palmerdesigned
and award-winning Whistler Golf Course. Both are easily accessed by the
paved Valley Trail, a multi-access system that links all the resort’s parks, lakes, golf
courses and neighbourhoods with the Village. In fact, all of Whistler Centre’s beautiful
subdivisions are only a stone’s throw to Whistler Village, making this a highly
desirable area. Many of Whistler Centre’s properties are located above the valley floor,
