At The Heart of it All
The man who designed Whistler Village, Eldon Beck,
wandered the site, climbed trees and even watched the
progression of the sun as it moved across the sky just so he
could design a place unlike any other in the world. It was an
ambitious plan to create a town centre that existed in harmony
with its surroundings, offering stunning views no matter where
you turned. It was even more so when you consider that Whistler Village was
once the site of the town’s original garbage dump.
It wasn’t until 1977 that a community plan was even visualized with the town
centre at the site nestled between the towering
Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

centre that existed is pedestrian-only, meaning driving is not allowed
