Whistler Real Estate - IndexWhistler Real Estate - Whistler Real Estate Summer Fall 2009 Magazine - IndexAt The Heart of it All
The man who designed Whistler Village, Eldon Beck,
wandered the site, climbed trees and even watched the
progression of the sun as it moved across the sky just so he
could design a place unlike any other in the world. It was an
ambitious plan to create a town centre that existed in harmony
with its surroundings, offering stunning views no matter where
you turned. It was even more so when you consider that Whistler Village was
once the site of the town’s original garbage dump.
It wasn’t until 1977 that a community plan was even visualized with the town
centre at the site nestled between the towering
Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.
It was an ambitious
But that’s a far cry from the world-class and
internationally renowned alpine destination that
plan to create a town
exists today.
An authentic mountain town, Whistler Village
centre that existed is pedestrian-only, meaning driving is not allowed
within the Village. But that’s fine, as pedestrian-only
in harmony with its also means everything is within walking distance.
Whistler Village and the Blackcomb Benchlands
surroundings... are at the heart of it all, conveniently located just
steps from
restaurants, spas,
shopping and
nightclubs. That
convenience is key
to these properties
with everything
you could possibly
need close at hand.
Whistler Village
features hundreds
of shops, liquor
stores, grocery
stores, multi-plex cinema, concert venues and so much
more. It is the hub of life in the resort, and where all the
action and excitement is centred.
The properties within the Village and Benchlands
primarily cater to the short-term visitor, so most have
restrictive covenants to ensure there are homes available
for visitors to rent and enjoy. For example, of the 7,700
village area properties, only 42 are detached residences.
Vibrant and alive, Whistler Village continues to offer
an abundance of options for those seeking style and
convenience at the heart of it all.
